The Scottish Government awarded the River Ythan Trust, through the Rivers and Fisheries Trusts of Scotland, funding in the financial year 2010 / 2011 to support the production of a fishery management plan for the river Ythan.
A draft Fishery Management Plan was published in March 2011, following by a consultation process to gather comments and views from the public. The plan has now been updated and you can download a copy of the final version. You can also see the consultation responses to the draft plan here.
What's next?
In line with the plan, the next action for the River Ythan Trust is to commence habitat surveys throughout the fishery district – this will help establish the quality of in-stream and riparian habitat.
These surveys will identify potential obstructions to fish migration, as well as picking up on point source and diffuse pollution that may be having a detrimental impact on the river.
Currently the River Ythan Trust is investigating, given its limited financial resources, the most economical method of carrying out these habitat surveys.
